I wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful experience at the United Nations. After months of preparation, I was glad to see everything turn out greatly. For many it was a new experience, and for others including myself, I gained new insights that I had not considered before. The most poignant moment of our trip was during our time of reflection. I mentioned the film The Interpreter, in which the character Tobin Keller questions the role of interpreters and the significance of diplomacy. In asserting,"your profession is playing with words," this argument is often continually made in reference to the efforts of the United Nations. However, dialogue and a true commitment to understanding others both on a human level and diplomatically are imperative. Some of the world's greatest Human Rights atrocities occur within the participating countries of the United Nations. Much work is to be done prospectively to further the cause of Human Rights improvement globally. Ultimately, fostering understand through dialogue is critical to advance this goal, and so the United Nations as an institution is vital in this endeavor.
Thank you all again, and I am glad that the Student Ambassadors for Human Rights were joined by the Political Science Honors students and other graduate students who made this trip a memorable experience!
